Pianoing is a representation of a challenge to myself.
I am not a musician. I have not had any formal music training. However, I love music, specifically the piano, and I want to learn as much as I can about it. For me to do that I have created this website that will track a challenge to myself to play through the lives of the great pianists that I admire.
The specifics of the challenge are:
- Out of the musicians I have selected, I will choose one song from one of their piano books to learn each month.
- I will practice the selected song each day.
- I will post a video of my progress each week.
- If by the end of the month I haven’t completed the song selected, I will move onto the next song but continue practicing both songs until they are both completed.
- Videos will all be recorded in one take. What you see is what you get, no redos!
The challenge is simple. To make things a bit trickier and to expand my own comfort zone I will sing any song that has lyrics and record that in the weekly video.
Writers say that the best way to get better at writing is to write. I am applying that same principal to the piano. I will play every day in the hopes that I can improve my sight-reading, memorization, coordination and voice.
I’d love to have you along for the ride and we’ll just see how things sound in 2012.
